MATTER AND ITS PROPERTIES

 In Natural Science we are learning about MATTER.

We already know that matter is everything around us, that is, everything around us is made of matter.

Matter has some properties that define it: volume, mass and density.

We can measure volume (㎤), mass (g) and density (g/㎤).

 Matter can be in any of the three states we know: solid, liquid or gas.

MINERALS

 In Social Science we are learning many things about minerals and rocks. 

I have chosen several videos I know you are going to enjoy.

In the following two videos you are going to learn and understand the definition of mineral.

In the next video, you can visit the Canadian Museum of Nature and appreciate some really marvellous minerals.

Diamonds are the hardest minerals on Earth. So here you have a special video that shows you their characteristics and properties.

In this last video you can learn about the different uses of rocks and minerals.

HEALTH AND MEDICINE

In Natural Science we are becoming familiar with  medicine discoveries to help people not to get ill or to cure them once they are ill.

Though there are many scientists and many discoveries, we are going to see some general ideas through some easy videos.

 I hope you like them and you learn a little bit more apart from the contents in your book.

We all know that vaccines are necessary and help us prevent very serious illnesses caused by virus. The first vaccine was discovered in 1796 by Edward Jenner. Here you have two videos in connection with the origin of vaccines and how they work.

We are also learning a little bit about antibiotics that help us cure infections caused by bacteria.

The first antibiotic to be discovered was penicillin. Penicillin was discovered not so long ago, in 1928, by Alexander Fleming.

In the first video you are going to find out a little bit about Alexander Fleming and his discovery. In the second video you will learn something about how antibiotics work.

STORY TIME: THE SMELLY SPROUT

 Good morning to all of you!!!

I hope you are having a good time though I know you are looking forward to being back at school with your friends. 

While we are waiting for Monday the 18th to come, I leave you here another story with Rachel. This time the story is about a sprout (una col) and I hope you like it as much as I do.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

We just began 2021 with a lot of snow. So much so that we can't go to school yet. Let's see if we can all be together on Wednesday the 13th.

This course we began 4th grade reading a story in Spanish titled "Hasta que podamos abrazarnos". We all liked it very much and we even have a wonderful display in our hall. Here you have the photo of what we all did together.

Well, well in Christmas time a good friend of mine wrote to me. She's an excellent English teacher that worked with me for many years and now she's back home but she has a story corner  in Youtube and I chose to begin this new year reading again this beautiful story but in English. Hope you enjoy!
